Spirituality is the Missing Link in Crisis Intervention
Crisis is at every hand! — Domestic Trials; Street and Workplace Violence; Economic Trials; Rampant Crime; Natural Disasters; and now COVID19. Spirituality is the missing link to Crisis Intervention.
“For too long the faith community has sat passively in the background and let government agencies or disaster relief groups attempt to do what only the ministry is capable and called to do! It’s time we take our place in crisis intervention and relief through highly trained and credentialed Chaplains and Crisis Teams coming from local churches and Faith Based Organizations,” says Dr. Michael K. Haynes.
“We cannot wait! We must be trained and prepared to help victims deal with all of the above life controlling issues when they occur. This is where Certified Chaplains are desperately needed to walk alongside the Crisis Intervention agencies and bring the missing link of Spirituality into the scene.”
Dr. Haynes founded Crisis Chaplaincy Care and this necessary training course with the purpose of extending the ministry to help with critical incidents that occur somewhere every minute. Trained and Certified Chaplains can go where most other caregiving entities cannot go. Behind the Yellow Ribbon.

Dr. Michael Haynes, PhD
President and Founder of Faith Based Counselor Training Institute
Dr. Michael K. Haynes is an internationally known author with 61 books to his credit. There are 20 titles which bear his name while the others were written for people in various businesses and ministries. He has traveled across America and several foreign countries including China lecturing communities, law enforcement, the military and churches concerning the sweeping difficulties that are facing our nation’s youth and families.
His seminars have been in great demand and have been attended by thousands. “The god Of Rock” seminar was seen by over 1 million people during the mid 1980’s. His bestselling book of the same title sold in excess of 300,000 copies.
Dr. Haynes founded The Faith Based Counselor Training Institute, Inc. in 1996. He also founded Crisis Chaplaincy Care, Inc. in 1998. Because of his former fire-fighting and EMS experience, he was called upon by the North American Mission Board on September 1, 2001 to lead a team to Ground Zero in New Your City immediately following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centers. He was on that horrible crime scene three days after the towers fell and trained/counseled there for a year to the day. The result was a loss of health through cancer from what he breathed and PTSD from what he saw and experienced there. However, despite 8 rounds of chemotherapy, radiation and 7 surgeries over a 20 year span afterwards and being put in Hospice in 2018 and given 3 months to live...Dr. Haynes turned 82 in 2025 and is thriving, still preaching & teaching and has been cancer FREE since 2018. All glory to God.
Michael holds a Ph.D. in Theology and Counseling. He is a Licensed Pastoral Counselor and is certified with the International Conference of Police Chaplains as well as achieving advanced certification in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing. He has received numerous awards and recognitions for FBCTI’s exceedingly successful training courses.
Mainland China underwent a major earthquake and learned the necessity of understanding how to work with those who were severely traumatized. Their first responders are the military and they were sorely lacking in how to perform crisis intervention. A young psychologist named Dr. Robert Yung had taken The Faith Based Counselor Training Institute’s Restorative Therapy Course and had their leadership to contact Dr. Haynes and ask him if he could come to China and train their professional people. Michael agreed and the rest is history.

Frequently Asked Questions
A Chaplain is someone who is trained to work in a ministry capacity to help people who are hurting or in need of spiritual care. They have a special calling to go out among people of all denominations and faiths to bring healing in critical situations.
A Chaplain is on call physically to be of service in whatever a person needs spiritually. They have a ministry of presence in that they represent God in the midst of His people.
Anyone who has a deep calling to help people who are hurting.
A crisis is an event that happens in a person's life that is out of their control.
A crisis can occur at any time to anyone. There are NO boundaries to the occurrence of a crisis.
A Chaplain is a front line minister. He or she deals with the hands on Spiritual support of all the points of crisis intervention. A Chaplain needs to be trained in how to minister in the midst of a critical incident. The Chaplain brings the Spiritual component into crisis intervention. Training for the Ministry of Presence is at the forefront of preparing for Chaplaincy and not everyone can be in the middle of a terrible event and not know how to work with the victims involved at the time of the event. There are things you do and do not do as a Chaplain and the person working in ministry certainly needs to be educated and credentialed to know what to do. The Chaplain can go where other Ministers and Caregivers cannot go. The Chaplain can go beyond the yellow ribbon and work with victims and first responders alike. This is why the Spiritual Link in crisis intervention is missing. There are not many experienced and trained Chaplains available.

Looking To Start Your Own Counseling Practice Or Just Want to Know How To Help Others Who Are Hurting
A counselor works on the backside of a crisis. The backside is what happens to a person who has been traumatized and the need for helping victims to be able to work through the crisis and why it happened is the counselors job. Counselors help people who hurt for a variety of problems that occur from just living life. Counselors have a much more settled base than Chaplains. They are trained to get behind the eyes of their clients to find the core or the root cause of the problems their clients are dealing with. Counselors need to be trained in a much broader scope of life controlling issues in order to be able to work with the people affected that they will be helping. The established treatment industry mainly deals with the dichotomy of the hurting person. Dichotomy simply means the body and soul. Most often the trichotomy is left out. The Spiritual component is the missing link that the Faith Based approach helps connect.
It depends on where the Chaplain's ministry is located. There are agencies who hire Chaplains such as hospitals and other places who work with the needs of the people.
